Dave Lauterbauch, Mike Howe and myself decided to brave the rough surf for another day of cut throat saltwater fishing from our Hobie kayaks. We won't go into detail but lets just say my two fishing buddies need some more practice on launching and entering the surf! Anyway, it was an awesome day for fishing! We racked up on Snapper and Grouper off the bottom and even caught a couple nice Kings and a small shark at about 60 foot of water! With the Destin fishing rodeo on the horizon, we needed to spend as much time on the water as possible to find out where all the hot spots are and that's just what we did. 6 1/2 hours in total, we trolled around and fished unconventional baits at different depths to see what was biting what. It was a "lesson learned" type of day! We learned a lot about where the big snapper are hiding and that rod leashes are a probably a good investment! Here are the totals:
  • (5) Red Snapper
  • (3) Mangrove Snapper
  • (1) Sandbar Shark
  • (4) Grouper (2 were keepers)
  • (2) King Mackerel
  • (1) Spanish Mackerel
