August 21, 2010 Kayak Fishing

Posted by Preston Muller on Sunday, August 22, 2010,

Jared Laurick and I launched our kayaks at 2:00 today. Once again the unpredictable summer weather played a big role in todays outcome. We began by trolling aroung a bit to get a feel for what may be hungry. After about an hour we had our first hit but he quickly snapped my 50lb. braid. I retied and we headed to about 60 foot of water. Just as we reach the targeted depth, someting HUGE hit my line. I can honestly say I have never seen my line go out so fast! I was holding my fishing rod with ...

Graham Rodgers and I hit the water at 3:00 this afternoon! This was Graham's first saltwater fishing trip so I was excited to show him what it is all about! We went to my new favorite spot, 2 miles offshore, and dropped lines. Snapper everywhere! We caught several snapper and got bit off by some sharks on the bottom. Couldn't Land Him

Dave and I put in at 12:30 yesterday afternoon. With storms all around us we knew our trip may be short lived so we started fishing as soon as we hit the sandbar. We made our way out to the two mile marker and dropped a couple lines to the bottom. Immediately we were hauling up snapper. The snapper were so thick down there, they were taking our bait on the way down almost everytime. Since snapper season is out, we switched gears and started trolling for Kings. Dave had never caught a nice Kin...

Posted by Preston Muller on Thursday, August 5, 2010,

One of the most anticipated trips of the summer had me pumped up as I finished tying my last live bait rig the night before our kayak fishing excursion. All of the ingredients for a successful day on the water were there: calm seas, warm water,a strong fishing forecast and 3 guys who were determined to catch a fish from a kayak. Scott, Jason and Justin met up at 7:30am. We went over the basics and headed out. Scott and his son, Justin, trolled a duster rig from the tandem (thanks to Dave Laud...

Little Tunny

Posted by Preston Muller on Tuesday, August 3, 2010,
Bonita are a blast to catch! They are known for fast bursts and screaming drag when hooked! Today, the waters were alive with Bonita feeding frenzies. Dave and I went out about 2 miles from the beach today trolling dusters and a artificial. Dave hooked up to a nice one early on and started the day off with a bang! We ended up landing around 7 Bonita in a little under four hours along with a nice Cero Mackerel. It was another successful day on the emerald coast as the fishing seems to remain s...
